Why I hate tech support
Yesterday my internet died. Or rather the internet wouldn’t work for my laptop or my dad’s laptop, yet for some strange reason my dad’s desktop’s internet was still working. I called tech support for Vonage, RoadRunner, and IBM. All of them were of no use.
- Vonage: Last time I called Vonage I was transferred to India, and it was not exactly a very pleasant experience. This time though, I got transferred to an American… who was of no use. I told her my problem and she just said that I needed to call my internet provider. Yet, I was able to fix the internet was reinstalling the Vonage crap that they gave me. Thanks for not helping me and giving me lots of grief to deal with afterwards.
- RoadRunner: I spent a good half hour with this representative, until I think she got sick of me and told me to call IBM. Lots of tinkering and trying to decipher what the hell she was saying because of her very thick southern accent.
- IBM: Another representative with an even thicker southern accent. So, he pretty much told me that I needed to reimage my laptop. I spent a good two hours backing up my files, and once I try to reimage it, it won’t work. Apparently, my high school’s laptop program screwed us over yet again and make it impossible trying to reimage it. I called them later that night and they said that it was a bad hard drive.
I spend today surfing the internet on my dad’s desktop when I have a bit of a eureka moment. I went to Vonage’s website and looked for instructions on how to reinstall the phone adapter and VIOLA! Hopefully it will stay this way from now on.
As for the problems if I ever want to reimage my laptop in the near future… well, I’ll probably need a new laptop by then (this thing is three years old, and therefore is considered old when concerning laptops). Even then, I’ll probably just take my aggression out on this thing after how much agony it caused me in the past. I will not bestow this evil thing to someone else. I’m thinking about getting a MacBook, since they are obviously less evil than any Windows laptop.
A word of advice for anyone out there looking to buy a new laptop: DON’T BUY AN IBM THINKPAD! Or rather, don’t by anything from IBM. Especially if you are a very “hard” typer/clicker. The mouse buttons have some sort of spring mechanism that will quickly wear away and die/not work if you are a very aggressive clicker (like myself), unlike most laptop mice buttons where it doesn’t have a spring and works like a button on a normal mouse does.
I hate technology.
