My last day of freshman year was yesterday. It was a little sad. A combination of relief and glum as a couple of my friends will be graduating in the morning and won’t be seeing many of my friends until August. I didn’t mind the fact that finals, papers/homework, and work were over though.
It’s odd. As college students a majority of us actually live at school inside our own little bubble from society. As opposed to just going to and from school for eight hours a day before, now we actually in a way eat, breathe, and live school. Or at least some of us do.
Some of us have actually yet to set foot outside of campus. So college is our own little town inside the college town. We have (crappy) food, shelter, stores, work, school, a governing body of some sort, and everything else in between. It’s cliche, but despite the independence and responsibilities we have in college than at home — it’s still not the real world.
This place that we live, sleep, and eat in is revolved around us getting an education. They provide us the basic necessities of home for the sole purpose of obtaining a higher education from them.
During my first year at this school, I’ve met many people. Some good, some bad, some that are just scary, and those who are just made of awesome. I learned and not learned stuff. There were some good and bad times, but in a way even the bad moments were worth it. I learned where not to eat and what classes are a complete waste of time (but a good time to get some homework and reading done… or Tetris). What parts of campus to never live in again and how painful it really is to work in food service.
And to put some of the great quotes into a nutshell. Very few people will understand this bit.
- But, I don’t want to be the hamster!
- Not Morgan!
- THE POWER OF THE SPOON COMPELS YOU!
- Take off your sweater.
- A pretzel just came out of my nose.
- I have a cute tumor!
- Mario Kart is going to destroy my life and chances of graduation!
- Zombie gummi bears!
- She punches you in the spine, but then she says, “ow, my fist hurts.” So, then you are the one that feels bad despite the fact that she was the one that punched you. You can’t win either way!
- I’m a tree!
There was also this exchange with a friend and I earlier this semester.
The Colonel: “Drew, the Goddess of Cute commands that you come to late night with us!”
me: “I’m not Goddess, I’m Princess!”
The Colonel: “My mistake. Her Royal Highness commands that you come with us!”
It was a fun year.
