Why Fandango makes life easier… sort of

So being the ever-so-bright person that I am, I decided to brave the mall the day after Christmas because I wanted to return stuff and see Nine. However, knowing that it would be insane (I miraculously found a decent parking spot within a short period of time) I pre-ordered my ticket via Fandango. I usually use Fandango whenever I go to the movies at home, since there is no Fandango kiosk at the movie theater at school. The only times I don’t are when I know the mall won’t involve weaving around slow-moving people.

Surprisingly everyone decided the same thing when I came to the movie theater… or so I thought. People decided they didn’t want to wait in line for tickets and decide to use the Fandango kiosk to buy tickets that way. Only to realize they have no clue how to use the machine or they realize that the showing or movie they wanted to see is *gasp* sold out. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the kiosk, since it’s a lot easier just pre-ordering them and just picking them up. It’s basically the same thing buying tickets the normal way only you don’t have to deal with a person on the other end.

This is why I order tickets online to avoid having to deal with sold out shows. However, these people decided to hold up the line even more by consulting with the people they came with to find an alternative. All the while I stand there impatiently because I actually thought ahead of time knowing that today would be insane (1: it’s Saturday. 2: it’s Boxing Day. My sympathies for all of those at the mall that had to work today).

Idiot blonde in front of me: “It says it’s sold out.”
Friend of idiot: “What are the other showings?”
Idiot: “The next showing that isn’t sold out isn’t until [mumblings about the next one being 2 hours from now]“
Friend of idiot: “Do you think we should be getting out of line?”
Woman behind me who earns awesome points from me: “Yes.”

[They leave in a huff. How dare she talk to us this way and our incompetence of technology and poor planning!]

Awesome woman is awesome: “Sorry, was that rude?”
me: “Nope!” [Picks up ticket and leaves in five seconds flat. I think I was the fastest person to use the machines thus far in the line.]

Granted, I could of printed the ticket at home, however the printer ran out of ink and it’s not the same to use a printer paper as a ticket stub in my ticket stub collection.

I usually am more patient with people, but stupidity and lack of common sense (i.e.: it’s Saturday and busy, you’re being slow and can’t plan ahead) will have no mercy from me.

Being Asian sucks sometimes

It’s angry rant time. Why? Because people are ignorant bastards. That’s why. To get a gist of the post, this video sums up how I feel at the moment:

Okay, I definitely did not vote for those people

Seeing as how the New York state government fails as of late. Like increasing tuition for SUNY and budget cutting. Genius. I mean why do we have to pay more money only to have that money go to the state debt?! It should go to the school, damn it! I will not discuss how much Governor Patterson fails at the moment. Spitzer may have been a manwhore, but at least he was politically smart.

I digress, I will not discuss about that. What matters right now is that today the New York State Senate failed to pass a bill that will allow gay marriage by 38 to 24.

I definitely know I did not vote for the people that rejected that bill. I believe in being intolerant against stupidity and bigotry. I do not see why people cannot be allowed the same rights and benefits that heterosexual married people have just because of their sexual orientation. They did not choose to be homosexual, just like how I didn’t choose to be Asian. If it really was a choice, then why would anyone want to be ostracized by most of society? Would anyone willingly want to be taunted, ridiculed, and be subject to crap treatment? I thought so.

Homosexuals should be allowed access to the same things heterosexuals are entitled to in marriage. Hospital visitation, survivor benefits, et cetera.

And to be honest, this really should not affect straight people. Why should it matter? It’s not like as soon as gay marriage is legalized, then the gays will try to turn straight people gay! Let them live their lives how they want. It’s not like they’re trying to bother us. They just want to be treated like human beings.

This is a matter of equal human rights and tolerance, and stripping a person of those rights is inhumane. This is not an issue on morality. And I’m so disappointed.

Way to fail, New York. Way to fail.

sXephil rants about this in a more entertaining manner:

It’s like the younger they are the more stupid they become

Time for a real entry. Sorry about the lack of updates (not that anyone really read this anyways).

I question whether or not Darwin’s Law is working or not. Because during my three years in college, I think the freshmen are getting more dumb.

Specifically the ones from Long Island. Or people from Long Island in general. They gripe and moan how cold it is when it’s 60 degrees out. Being that I’m from the area, and dealt with my share of REAL winters. 60 degrees is a balmy day. It’s like in Russia. In Russia they have winter and then they have the general winter which sets in a little later. The general winter is a lot colder and miserable than winter in Russia. Granted, our winters are nothing compared to Russia, but that’s what it basically is. We have winter (late November to December) and winter 2.0 (most of spring semester, which I think is a way to mock us by calling it “spring” when 6 feet of snow just fell). I love seeing how they react to “spring.”

Which brings me to the next point. I remember one time when I overheard a freshman (from Long Island, of course) how they go outside in jeans and a hoodie in winter. Dude, downstate winters are a lot more mild than the ones up here. Here you need to bundle up and look like an eskimo before setting foot outside. And no, you’re not allowed to complain that you’re cold when you’re wearing a mini skirt that barely covers your ass and a coat that isn’t made for a real winter.

Get used to winters where being outside for only a few seconds will make your face hurt. Survival of the fittest. And no, there isn’t really a thing called “spring” here.

And learn how to walk around campus instead of taking the shuttle bus, you lazy bastards. You can get to your destination faster on foot than waiting around for the bus.

Maybe we should have let evolution take its course and kill off some of the stupid people in society. And I’m talking about extremely dumb people that lack any sort of common sense whatsoever.

When working in customer service, rudeness and stupidity is a daily thing. Like the people that don’t get the hint that the store is closing despite dimming the lights and shutting the music and still don’t get the hint to leave.

How to not be stupid will be a complicated one, since there are many varieties of dumb. In this course, it will be broken down into the following categories:

  1. Ignorance
  2. Lack of common sense/logic
  3. General closed-mindedness

How to not be creepy 101

…you’re doing it wrong.

In my attempt to educate the masses (by masses, I mean the few people that read this blog), I will teach you in what I like to call How to Not Fail at Life series. Today’s lesson is how to not be creepy.

  • Do not invade a person’s personal bubble if you just met them.

This should be self explanatory. The general rule is a minimum three feet radius. This also includes no touching, unless to shake hands.

  • Avoid personal questions if you don’t know the person well.

This includes questions like “Are you from China?” and “Well, what are you then?” Not only is this rude, it makes you look like a complete moron. You also imply in the latter question that you are inquiring whether or not the person is human, and that’s just insulting. The person will then think you as a sub-human barely capable of breathing, let alone be worth their time.

And being that it is 3 AM, that will be the conclusion of the lesson. Good night.

AT&T is a giant pile of fail

You would think an Apple nerd like me would have an iPhone… especially now that the iPhone 3G is now only $99. However, I refuse to sell my soul to AT&T which has Apple by the balls when it comes to the iPhone. I like my service at Verizon, thank you. It also helps that most of my friends use Verizon, so calling them doesn’t use up my minutes.
